Masters Swimming
24th Long Course Championships
held at the Kings Park Swimming
Pool in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal
from the 12th to the 15th of March 2008
410 Swimmers (183 women and 227 men) entered, of whom 18 were foreign swimmers from Ukraine (10), Swaziland (6) & Zimbabwe (2).
374 Swimmers eventually competed. (34 South Africans and 2 Ukrainians did not make it to Sasolburg.)
352 Swimmers scored points for their club in individual races.
281 Relay teams were entered.
There were 8 swimmers entered who were 80 years and older.
The oldest female competitor was
Elaine Buck (89).
The oldest male competitor was Jack Brink (88).
RECORDS
48 South African Records were broken in the individual events.
10 South African Records were broken in the relay events.
2 South African Records were broken in the Dash-for-Cash events.
In addition 4 second place finishers (1 individual and 3 relays) also bettered the old South African Record.
1 foreign swimmer swam faster
than the SA Record in 1 event.
COLOURS
South African Masters Swimming Colours qualifying times were bettered 75 times by 25 different South African Swimmers during the championships.
25 Swimmers (14 women & 11 men) who qualified throughout the 2007/2008 season were awarded their Colours.
In addition there were 3 swimmers who qualified on time in the 2007/2008 season but have yet to participate in 3 national long course championships.
