(1:56.19 vs 1:58.64). Records subject to FINA acceptance. Fantastic
achievements by the ladies on the back of their Oudtshoorn World LC
records.
Very poor turnout. No Ellis Park staff available to operate the ETD so the ETD was cabled up, configured and run fairly satisfactorily by GMS.

Ottermann broke the 50m Freestyle (27.12 vs 27.44) and the 50m Butterfly
(28.97 vs 29.12) World Records in her new
age group (45-49). Records subject to FINA acceptance. Fantastic Edith.
Events 2 thru 5 of this gala were run with the ETD starting device cabled incorrectly. This resulted in the timer starting on the depression of the microphone switch. These events and event 10 heat 1 (no ETD start) have the backup stopwatch times used in place of the ETD times. In these events there were 4 cases of records being bettered but with only one stopwatch time. These times cannot be validated as records. In one case 3 stopwatch times were recorded and this record is valid.
This gala was run with the ETD inadvertently set to only capture times to the 10th of a second. As a result any times that are record breaking will be adjusted slower by one tenth of a second for record applications. If 3 manual stopwatch times were recorded then these stopwatch times will be used for record applications in place of the adjusted ETD time.
Any indication of a SAMS Record (S) or SAMS Colours Qualifying Time (SAQT) will only be valid if 3 times were taken or ETD timekeeping was used AND the swimmer was registered by the date of their swim.
